Ford Transit van owners beware – theft on the increase.

Good morning

2 Ford Transit vans have been stolen, without keys, from Front Street and Elizabeth Drive in Castleford. There was also an attempt theft on Fryston Road where the suspects have smashed the van window.

Please protect your vehicle and the contents inside by considering the below points:

Immobilisers— A ghost style immobiliser requires the driver to input a short code or sequence in order to operate the vehicle. This can be a combination of buttons and pedals pressed. This stops the vehicle from being driven away in the event of a theft.

Add extra locks and alarms—You can deter thieves from even attempting to steal your vehicles by adding deadlocks to the doors and implementing a more advanced alarm system and steering wheel locks.

Register and security mark tools - Register tools for free at: www.immobilise.com (free property registering service)

Install a tracking device—Lastly, you can increase your chance of recovering any stolen vehicle by installing tracking devices. With these devices in place, you will be able to detect the whereabouts of missing vehicles.

As with any additional security for vehicles, try to purchase devices that are:

  • Thatcham quality assured – www.Thatcham.org
  • Sold Secure tested - www.soldsecure.com/
  • Secured by Design approved - www.securedbydesign.com/
  •
